What makes a good shopfront signboard
People decide in a few seconds whether to stop. A good shop signboard shows your name clearly, says what you do, and can be read from across the road and from a passing car. It also has to fit the space above your shop, which in most Malaysian shop lots is a long, narrow fascia.
Types of shop signage
- LED lightbox signboard: an evenly lit box, easy to read at night and good for long names.
- 3D signboard on a backing panel: letters stand out from the panel and look sharp in daylight. They can be front-lit or backlit.
- Printed panel signboard: an aluminium composite or metal panel with printed graphics, the simplest and most affordable option.
- Projecting sign: a round or shaped lightbox fixed at a right angle, so people walking along the five-foot way can see you.
Shop signboard design
A strong shop sign design keeps the name big, adds one line about what you sell, and leaves out long lists. Contrast matters more than colour: dark letters on a light face, or light letters on a dark face, read best from the road. We prepare the layout on a photo of your shopfront so you can see it in place before it is made.
Signboards for different kinds of shops
- Restaurants and cafes, where a lit sign helps in the evening and a menu lightbox helps at the counter
- Clinics and pharmacies, where a clear name and a symbol matter more than decoration
- Retail, hardware and convenience stores in a row of shop lots, where yours has to stand out from the neighbours

Send us a photo of your shopfront, the width of the shop lot and your logo, and we will reply with a design idea and a quotation. Shop windows and glass doors can be finished with a sticker signboard for opening hours and promotions.
Most local councils (PBT) control the size and position of shop signboards, and many need an approved licence. Check with your council before installation.
